This trip is about taking your work to the south coast of Sri Lanka for two weeks and seeing what a normal workday feels like by the sea. You still join your calls and meet your deadlines, but Sri Lanka is four and a half hours ahead of Europe, so the mornings are yours: a swim in the bay, maybe your first surf lesson, and breakfast by the river with people who were strangers the day before. Work starts after lunch, when Europe wakes up, and in the evening someone usually knows a place in town for rice and curry. Along the way we swim with the turtles and learn to cook Sri Lankan food together, and on the middle weekend whoever wants to can take the train up to Ella.
Who is this trip for: remote workers, freelancers and entrepreneurs who want two weeks of sea, sun and a break free from the routine.
The Villa in Weligama is a private riverside boutique stay: high-ceiling rooms with river-view balconies, within short reach of Weligama Bay, one of Sri Lanka's best beginner surf beaches.

Weligama itself is easily walkable or a short tuk-tuk ride to anywhere you need. PickMe, Sri Lanka's local ride app, works well for anything farther along the coast.
A few things we do together, and a lot of time to just enjoy being there.
Check-in
Check in during the afternoon, settle into your room, and meet the group at dinner.
First week
We start with a Sri Lankan cooking class, which is the best way to break the ice. The rest of the week is surf in the morning for whoever wants to try, community dinners in town, and the first Mastermind of the trip.
The weekend
We head up into the hills for the day, tea plantations, old bridges and one of the prettiest train rides in the country.
Second week
We swim with the turtles, do yoga at sunset, and run skill sharing sessions where everyone teaches the group something they're good at. The Masterminds and dinners keep going.
Last day · Check-out
One last dinner together on Saturday night, check-out on Sunday morning.
Every room is private. Prices below are per person at the current price tier.

Community Lead
"I'll be your community manager for Sri Lanka! I'm from Calabria, down in the south of Italy, which means I grew up with the same sea and slow pace of life that Mate was born from. I lived in Ireland for 5 years before going fully nomadic earlier in 2026, and these days I help travel and hospitality brands shine on social media. I speak English, Italian and Spanish, so we'll probably find a language in common. And if not, I'm Italian, so there's always hand gestures! 🤌🏼 My mission is simple: day one we're strangers, by day 3 I know your coffee order, and by the end you've got new mates in five time zones and a sofa to crash on in every one of them. So pack your laptop and sunscreen and come join me in Weligama. We'll make it one to remember!"
Yes. Mate organizes small group trips for remote workers and digital nomads: a curated group travels, works and lives together, not a loose meetup or a hotel full of strangers who happen to overlap.
We're not your usual coliving. At Mate, we believe that magic happens when we start together, grow together, and leave as real mates. That's why each Chapter has fixed dates: we all check-in on Day 1 and live the whole adventure side by side. Friendships, spontaneous ideas, even startup collabs (yep, it's happened before!) these things take time. Plus, weekends are for excursions like Ella and deeper bonding, so you won't want to miss a single one.
Yes, it's considered one of the best beginner surf beaches in Sri Lanka: a sandy bottom, no reefs, and long, steady waves. Surf lessons aren't included in the price, but they're easy to book locally and we'll point you to good instructors.
Yes! If you book a private room, your partner can join you for an additional cost. Our experiences are all about community activities, trips, and events, so your partner gets to enjoy the full journey with the group.
Nope, but don't worry, we'll help you figure out the best route into Sri Lanka and arrange the transfer to Weligama so your arrival is smooth and easy.
Nope, travel insurance is not included, but we highly recommend having one, just in case. You can grab it super easily through our trusted partner SafetyWing. Whether it's for flights, luggage, or unexpected surprises, better safe than sorry.
Absolutely, even more so. Mate is made for every kind of traveler: extroverts, introverts, ambiverts, and everything in between. There's plenty of space to recharge solo (private room, river-view balcony, quiet time by the water), but also a warm, open community that makes it easy to connect. No pressure, no forced fun.
Sri Lanka requires an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) for most nationalities. Apply online before you fly.
The villa has Starlink satellite internet (200+ Mbps), fast enough for video calls and uploads.
